Sword Medical is proud to distribute Pentax AWS in Ireland with the Airway Scope AWS-S100, a rigid video laryngoscope for intubation, and the Intlock ITL-S, a specialised laryngoscope blade. The AWS-S100's video monitor allows simple yet accurate verification during tracheal intubation procedures.
Tracheal intubation using a laryngoscope is a commonly practiced technique today to secure the respiratory passage in instances where the trachea is blocked or constricted during cardiopulmonary arrest or in surgical operations where the patient is given general anesthesia. Tracheal intubation is performed by first extending the patient's neck and forcibly separating the upper portion of the palate and the base of the tongue with a laryngoscope. The operator then inserts the tube while directly observing the conditions inside the mouth cavity. Tracheal intubation is a difficult procedure because the intubation and visual confirmation are often complicated by the condition and position of the patient as well as by the location and other external factors.

The Airway Scope AWS-S100 newly released by PENTAX makes possible to perform a tracheal intubation easily. The AWS-S100 has an imaging CCD and LED light attached to its tip. AWS-S100 is paired with an Intlock blade with curved shape. These features allow the operator to verify conditions in the oral cavity and the intubation status during tracheal intubation on a 2.4-inch color LCD monitor. With this device, there is no need to extend the patient's neck or apply excessive force. By placing the airway scope under the epiglottis and raising it lightly, it is possible to insert an endotracheal tube into the trachea.

Monitor verification The Airway Scope AWS-S100 features a scope with a tip-mounted imaging CCD and displays conditions in the oral cavity and the intubation status during tracheal intubation on a 2.4-inch color LCD monitor. The operator can perform intubation while watching the LCD monitor. The built-in monitor screen has a wide viewing angle and is readily visible from behind and from the side of the airway scope, allowing staff other than the operator to verify the tracheal intubation status. In addition, the airway scope's video output allows a group of people to view the images on an external medical monitor.
Easy and precise intubation using the sighting device and guides Intubation can be completed easily and precisely by aligning the sighting device shown on the monitor with the intubating position and gently pushing the endotracheal tube along the Intlock's guides. No stylet is needed. The Intlock accepts endotracheal tubes with outside diameters between 8.5 mm and 11.0 mm.
•The AWS-S100 can be used outdoors in rainy and wet conditions because it has a water-resistance rating equivalent to IPX7.
•The AWS-S100 is powered by AA batteries for ease of handling in any location. The airway scope can be used continuously for about 1 hour with fresh alkaline batteries. It has a low-battery alert feature that displays a warning on the monitor screen when the batteries are running low.
•The Intlock blade incorporating with a channel for a suction catheter, permitting aspiration treatment inside the oral cavity if required.
The Intlock blade is disposable, eliminating concerns about infection.
